Drywall material can be used to provide an inexpensive, energy efficient, and beautiful interior to your walls and ceiling. Correct application however, requires a number of steps with time for thorough drying in between. While ostensibly simple steps, in reality a quality installation of drywall larger than a 12x12 square is beyond the skill of a first time DIYer and should be performed by experienced craftsmen like Tracy Calvert and his team.
After flipping my first house I will never try to do a big drywall job again. It was worth every penny I paid to have a crew come in and drywall the house.

Drywall Repair Process
- Cut out and haul away of old material (and molding if applicable)
- Inspect and dry, and repair framing and wall interior if needed
- Install new insulation material
- Mount new drywall squares to the wall frames with screws.
- If the section being repaired is smaller than a whole square, then a series of precise measurements and cuts must be made to exactly match the area being patched.
- If this section of wall or ceiling is having recurring issues with water, consider upgrading to advanced dry wall material with enhanced mold resistance
- Drywall squares are floated to align with the surrounding drywall
- Tape is applied to the seams (aka joints) of the new drywall and the surrounding drywall
- Drywall mud is applied to produce a level surface across the old and new drywall surfaces
- The drywall mud is sanded to produce a smooth and level surface continuously across the old and new drywall surfaces
- After drying. Wall texture is mixed to desired coarseness, then applied to create a continous appearance and texture
- After drying, primer paint is applied (if applicable)
- After drying, one or more coats of color paint is applied
- After all paint is dry, the patch is almost impossible to spot if the float and painting has been well executed.
- New molding is painted and installed (if applicable)
